Reaching Amritsar by Train

Amritsar by Train

Amritsar is connected by regularly plying trains from the metro cities of Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai. Different trains with different routes leave for Amritsar from the Delhi Railway Station, Howrah and Sealdah Railway Station in Kolkata and the Bombay Central Railway Station. Therefore most tourists visiting Punjab from these metro cities prefer to travel to Amritsar by train. The Pakistani city of Lahore is also connected with Amritsar via rail and the Samjhauta Express runs between the two cities.

One can also travel to Amritsar by train from the other cities of Punjab or from the cities of neighboring states. The picturesque Indian countryside makes this journey a pleasant one.

Indian Railways has projected a high speed rail line (160 kmph) between Delhi-Amritsar via Chandigarh and Ambala.
