Golden Temple is a historical and famous Sikh temple located in the heart of Amritsar, India.
It is said that this temple built / coated with 165kgs Gold during 16th century. One of the biggest temple that attract almost 1,00,000 visitors per day which is more than Taj Mahal.

This historical Sikh temple hosts several religious values and mini temples inside the compound.

Akal Takth, Amrit Sarovar are the main tourist attractions inside the temple complex.

Tourists can buy several things around the temple. Afternoon lunch will be provided by the temple authority, which is proudly called as LUNGAR. Roti and Sabji (curry) will be provided as prasad.

Amritsar is connected by regularly plying trains from the metro cities of Kolkata, Delhi and Mumbai. Different trains with different routes leave for Amritsar from the Delhi Railway Station, Howrah and Sealdah Railway Station in Kolkata and the Bombay Central Railway Station. Therefore most tourists visiting Punjab from these metro cities prefer to travel to Amritsar by train. The Pakistani city of Lahore is also connected with Amritsar via rail and the Samjhauta Express runs between the two cities.

One can also travel to Amritsar by train from the other cities of Punjab or from the cities of neighboring states. The picturesque Indian countryside makes this journey a pleasant one.

Indian Railways has projected a high speed rail line (160 kmph) between Delhi-Amritsar via Chandigarh and Ambala.

About Amritsar City


Amritsar (Guru ki nagri or Ramdaspur) - Punjab is one of the most ancient and captivating cities of India. Amritsar is a Municipal corporation and the district headquarters of Amritsar district in Punjab, India. The city of Amritsar is located in the northwest region of India and is situated exactly at a distance of 30 kms from the Wagah Border and situated at a distance of 235 kms northwest from Chandigarh.
Amritsar, as a city; it has a lot of importance because - it has the roots of Sikhs religion, culture, and political history. And Amritsar is a pilgrimage center that houses the Sikh secular and political authority, Akal Takht (Sikh Parliament).

Amritsar city and its surrounding regions house so many pilgrimage shrines / Gurudwaras and tempels as well. The city of Amritsar witnessed the unfortunate incidents of Jalianwala Bagh massacre during 1919 AD during the British. And Operation Blue star in 1984 AD. 

It is said that Guru Nanak Ji visited Amritsar in the year 1532. The pond from where Guru Nanak Ji used to take water during his stay in Amritsar was modified / renewed as a holy tank by Shri Guru Ram Das Ji in 1581-1606. Guru Ram Das Ji named the tank as 'Amrit Sarovar'. This Tank surrounds the popular Golden Temple of Amritsar.
